A lighthouse is a tower, building, or other type of structure designed to emit light from a system of lamps and lenses and to serve as a beacon for navigational aid, for maritime pilots at sea or on inland waterways.
There are over 190 lighthouses along the long coastline of India and in the associated islands. They are administered by the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, Government of India with head office in Noida. They are categorised for administrative reasons into nine directorates: Gandhidham, Jamnagar, Mumbai, Goa, Cochin, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata and Port Blair.
The set of postcards will have 14 lighthouses (located in Gujarat, Diu, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Andaman & Nicobar Isls) and 1 India map card marked with most famous lighthouses of India.
